On Thursday, 5th December, 2024 the Centre for Applied Bioscience Research (CABR) officially launched. A joint collaboration between the Technological University of the Shannon and Munster Technological University, the ethos of the newly rebranded Centre for Applied Bioscience Research is to be the leading hub for transforming cutting-edge science and technology into real-world applications.
Taking an all-island approach and specialising in supporting Irish businesses in solving scientific and technical challenges, CABR partners with food, biotech and life science companies across the island of Ireland, driving innovation and growth. CABR, previously Shannon ABC, is ideally placed to support Irish businesses on their innovation journey through their focus on the Biosciences, cutting-edge equipment and a dedicated industry led team.

The Centre, established in 2008, is the only Technology Gateway collaborating across two Technological Universities, Technological University of the Shannon and Munster Technological University. Dr Tim Yeomans, Centre Manager for CABR said “Shannon ABC has been a fundamental support for hundreds of companies across Ireland for the past 16 years, the re-naming to the Centre for Applied Bioscience Research will provide a great springboard to support hundreds more.”
The CABR Technology Gateway is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the Southern, Eastern & Midland Regional Programme 2021-27.
