Meet the Team – Amy Jordan, Applied IoT Cluster

In our ‘Meet the Team’ series, we bring you a range of interviews from across the Technology Gateway Network Team. Today we introduce Amy Jordan, Marketing Executive for the Applied IoT Cluster.

Can you introduce yourself and describe your role within Applied IoT?

I’m the Marketing Executive for the Applied IoT Technology Gateway Cluster. My primary role is to boost awareness among cluster members and nationwide industries. This involves collaborating to create and execute our marketing strategy, running campaigns across various social media platforms, and representing the cluster at relevant events, trade shows, and conferences. It’s incredibly exciting to work with six Technology Gateways and over 150 research engineers and professionals. I’m eager to learn from these experts and translate their technical knowledge into compelling marketing messages that resonate with industry partners.

What’s unique about the Cluster and its presence within the Network?

What makes the cluster unique is that it combines the resources of six regionally dispersed Technology Gateways. This allows us to provide comprehensive expertise in all areas of IoT – from sensor, battery, and antenna development to networks, data handling, analytics, and software development. We can take a company’s new idea from concept to a near-market solution.

Can you share a bit about your career journey and how you arrived at your current position?

I began my career working in PR and communications agencies in Dublin and New York. Where I gained hands-on experience across diverse sectors from major events like New York Fashion Week and The Dubai Duty Free Irish Open to global consumer brands such as Nivea and Eucerin, as well as organisations like The Gaelic Players Association.

My professional journey has taken me across Abu Dhabi, London, Dublin, and New York, giving me a global perspective and the adaptability to work across markets, industries, and cultures. That international outlook continues to inform my approach today. Motivated by a passion for strategic thinking and innovation, I completed a Master’s in Insights and Innovation at DCU, supported by a Bord Bia scholarship. I went on to work with Stylus, a global trends and insights platform, partnering with brands like Adidas, Samsung, and Volkswagen to help them identify market opportunities and shape forward-thinking strategies.

This role within the Applied IoT Cluster brings all those experiences together — combining my background in marketing and innovation with my interest in technology to help connect industry with research and support the development of next-generation solutions.

How does the Cluster support innovation and research collaboration?

The Cluster acts as a bridge between industry and applied research, supporting companies in accessing the technical expertise they need to develop new products, services, or processes. By combining the capabilities of six Gateways, we can match companies with specialist teams who understand their sector and can guide them through the research and development journey. We also facilitate collaboration through Enterprise Ireland’s funding supports, helping businesses de-risk innovation and accelerate time to market. It’s a very practical, hands-on form of innovation support.

What specific services do Applied IoT provide to businesses

The Applied IoT Cluster provides access to expertise in a wide range of IoT-related fields, including electronics, sensor development, embedded systems, connectivity, cloud computing, data analytics, cybersecurity, and software development. Whether a company is developing a prototype, exploring smart automation, or looking to integrate AI, we have the teams and infrastructure to support them. We also offer feasibility studies, technical consultancy, and help with project scoping and funding applications.

What are the main benefits for a company collaborating with the Cluster?

The greatest benefit from collaborating with the Applied IoT cluster is the availability of up to 300 full-time engineers and researchers with a vast array of skills, equipment and experience in the various aspects and application of IoT technologies. In addition, the comfort of knowing a company can collaborate through a variety of funding mechanisms including directly funding the project themselves or availing of assistance in applying for the most suitable, Enterprise Ireland funding option available to them.

What is the first step/s a company should consider when thinking about embarking on an innovation project?

I would have to say understand your niche. A client understanding the market will work in tandem with our expertise who possess high technical skills. This is a key component when developing the product. The more knowledge a business has on their product, the more innovation takes place.

As a new member of the Enterprise Ireland Technology Gateway team, what are you most looking forward to?

As Marketing Executive, I’m most looking forward to amplifying the collective strengths of the Applied IoT Cluster and ensuring a more unified, strategic approach to how we communicate its value. While each of the six Gateways brings something unique, my role is to highlight how they come together to form a powerful, integrated resource for Irish industry. I’m excited to help shift the perception from six separate entities to one cohesive cluster — and to build greater awareness of the breadth and depth of expertise available through this collaborative model.

What’s the one piece of advice you would give to a company considering an innovation project?

Start the conversation early — even if your idea feels like it’s still in the early stages. You don’t need to have all the answers. The Gateway teams are experts at helping shape ideas into tangible, fundable projects. By reaching out, you open the door to technical advice, funding options, and collaborative partnerships that could accelerate your innovation journey much faster than going it alone.

How can companies get involved with Applied IoT?

Get in touch with myself or one of our team, and we will listen carefully to what you need, help to carve out a product development roadmap and match you with the right teams and funding supports to get you where you need to be. You can also get in touch with the team here.
