ClearSight

Efficient and data-informed

High volume crime impacts the quality of life in a community; the less there is, the better the quality of life. High volume crimes consume resources even when not fully resolved and are an ongoing drain on law enforcement resources—resources that could be directed toward more pressing or dangerous issues. The investigation process needs to be shortened, and both operational and data management must become more efficient and data-informed.

Visual representation of operational data is necessary to enable strategic decision-making, informing executive actions through data-driven decision supports, thereby leading to transparent decision- making. Law enforcement agencies and end-users, such as Senior Investigating Officers and Crime Data Analysts, are frustrated by current processes associated with managing, evaluating, and sharing operational data.

Therefore, a solution is required that improves operational workflow efficiencies, enabling law enforcement agencies to manage and communicate their data to people in the best way possible.

Operational data management

The Nimbus User Experience Research team helped ClearSight address operational data management challenges with the following design solutions:

Enhanced Workflows: Simplified processes for creating, managing, collaborating, and tracking operations, ensuring efficient and seamless management.

Streamlined Data Management: Intuitive tools for managing datasets, with advanced filtering and sorting options, maximising effective data utilisation across operations.

Advanced Data Visualisation: Interactive GIS mapping tools that provide rich, detailed visualisations of operational data, facilitating better insights and decision-making.

The Nimbus UX team employed a human-centred design methodology, which included:

Weekly online and in-person workshops to gather and review user needs.

Creation of personas, empathy maps, customer journey maps, and user flows.

Design of information architecture, user interface wireframes, and a clickable prototype.

By digitally transforming operational and data management workflows into a GIS map- based solution, the Nimbus team designed a system that effectively onboards new users, expedites operational workflows, and provides an optimal user experience. Bridging the gap between complex workflows and data management was crucial for ensuring the solution’s effectiveness for ClearSight’s end-users.

As a founder, you are so close to your subject for so long, that it can often be hard to be objective about it, or your users, when it comes to execution. When we decided to engage with the Nimbus Research Centre, their UI/UX group took a painstaking, collegial, approach to analysing our users’ needs and requirements. Regular structured workshops with deliverables at every stage, as well as informal emails and calls resulted in an outstanding outcome for ClearSight. The team from Nimbus were really invested and it was a true collaboration.

By methodically constructing “typical users” with cultural and operational nuances and then applying best practice to their findings, the Nimbus UI/UX group brought the project concept to life. This end result is a “look and feel” users can experience and an information architecture for developers to reference.

ClearSight & Nimbus Technology Gateway partnership

The UX team’s research and design methodology enabled ClearSight to gather valuable insights and empathise with their customers’ needs. The creation of user personas, customer journey maps, and user interface wireframes facilitated a smooth transition from low-fidelity wireframes to a detailed click-through prototype.

The outputs from this project will be used to further validate the value proposition with ClearSight’s customers and to inform and streamline the software development process. This will enable the creation of a functional application that brings ClearSight’s vision to life. ClearSight will use these deliverables to ensure the offering meets their customers’ needs.
