SWaP imbalance in the current pet tracker market

The research focused on the Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) imbalance in the current pet-tracker market. Desk-based analysis of market leaders (Tractive, Weenect, etc.) identified a critical gap: existing hardware is too bulky for felines under 5kg or fails to provide adequate battery life for owner peace of mind. The study aimed to determine if it is technically possible to decouple weight from performance to create a “second skin” wearable for small cats.

Technical consultation

This desk-based research exercise generated a comprehensive Product Requirement Specification (PRS) and a theoretical design architecture. The proposed roadmap includes:

High-Density Power Architecture: A theoretical move to High-Voltage LiPo (LiHV) chemistry to maximise energy density within a sub-25g footprint.

Ergonomic Curvature: Conceptualising a “concave” enclosure design to eliminate the “pendulum effect” common in clip-on trackers.

Intelligent Power Logic: A recommended software strategy using “WiFi Sniffing” to preserve battery life while the pet is in a safe home zone.

The primary impact of this technical consultation is the creation of a high-fidelity roadmap that reduces commercial uncertainty for Furry Finders™.

Strategic De-Risking: The research provides Furry Finders™ with the engineering benchmarks needed to evaluate the viability of a hardware startup before committing significant capital.

Validated Specification: The company now possesses a professional Internal Specification Document (the blueprint) that serves as the foundation for future R&D or investor pitches.

Defined Funding Pathway: The report clarifies the financial requirements (est. €120k for MVP) and recommends leveraging Enterprise Ireland Innovation Vouchers to bridge the gap between this exploration and physical prototyping.
