Technology Gateway Manager – MET (Fixed Term)

Applications are invited for the post of Technology Gateway Manager at the Enterprise Ireland Medical & Engineering Technology Gateway (MET), at Atlantic Technological University, Galway, as funded under the Enterprise Ireland Technology Gateway programme.
The role of the Technology Gateway Manager is to act as the primary contact point for industry, promote and generate the targeted levels of industrial engagement and lead the general promotion and marketing of the Gateway. The Gateway manager¿s primary role will be to develop collaborative links and projects with Irish industry and to define and execute projects against an industry informed agenda by working with the principal investigators (PIs), researchers and academic staff, Institute research management and support staff, and with an industry-led steering committee. The Gateway Manager will project manage the industrial client relationship from project initiation through to delivery on agreed time scale and to a standard agreed with the industry partner and principal investigators.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
  • Level 8 degree (Hons) in Engineering, Science or cognate area.
  • Strong track record of working with the MedTech and/or LifeSciences sectors with a minimum 10 years’ industry experience.
  • Experience of working with clients, of managing the client interface, and of developing and agreeing high quality project proposals and/or quotations, in conjunction with R&D colleagues, and in response to client requirements.
  • Experience of participation in successful inter-disciplinary research programmes.
  • Strong team leadership and project management skills.
  • Budget management skills, administration, reporting, strategic and resource planning skills.
  • Excellent team working, interpersonal, communications and presentation skills particularly in relation to dealing with senior personnel from industry, agencies and internal stakeholders.
  • Self-starter – ability to work on own initiative within clearly defined guidelines.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
  • Customer relationship management – have a track record of developing, managing and sustaining long term customer relationships with industry-based clients.
  • Evidence of proficiency in grant-writing and securing funding.
  • Marketing/ promotional experience including development of relevant promotional materials (such as brochures, case studies, newsletters, website content).
  • Oversee the implementation of the technology themes for the industry support base.
  • Report on a regular basis to the Institute Management, the Industry Steering Committee and to Enterprise Ireland on the performance of the Gateway.
  • Act as primary point of contact for industry with the research activities of the Institute as facilitated through the technology gateway. • Attend Technology Gateway Manager networking meetings, provide Enterprise Ireland with agreed reports, and attend review meetings as required by Enterprise Ireland to monitor the progress of the Gateway.
  • Deliver outputs on agreed industry technology themes; deliver on required Enterprise Ireland metrics & any new directions / themes as agreed with the Technology Gateway Steering Committee.
  • Market the technology gateway and engage with industry partners to generate targeted levels of industrial engagement and collaborative research projects.
  • Promote and position the technology gateway as a resource for local and national industry with provision of access to expertise/resources/facilities, to include ongoing maintenance and development of the gateway website and related marketing and promotional materials.
  • Sustainability and strategic planning – play a leading role in securing further funding for sustainability and growth of the gateway and related applied research activities, and in developing and executing against a strategic plan for the gateway.
  • Consolidate existing relationships and develop new partnerships with companies in relevant sectors in order to initiate industry informed research projects.
  • Coordinate with research associates and principal investigators, to oversee and project manage industrial client relationships from project initiation through to delivery to agreed time scales and standards.
  • Initiate proposal generation to research funding agencies and author or co-author applications for recurrent/capital funding to national/international exchequer and non-exchequer funding agencies.Participate in the generation of proposals, in conjunction with internal research associates and external clients/collaborators, for completion of contract and/or collaborative industry research projects.
  • Execute Operational Management for the Technology Gateway (projects, clients, staff and overall activities).
  • Establish a company contact ‘pipeline’ and proactively manage this on an on-going basis utilising appropriate support tools and processes.
  • Coordinate and manage the Industry Steering Group meetings.
  • Develop relationships with key clinical personnel at various hospitals (national and international) and national/international academic partners, as may be relevant to supporting collaborative industrial research projects.
  • Facilitate access to equipment and facilities where relevant.
  • Ensure adherence across all Gateway activities, to relevant Enterprise Ireland, European (e.g. ERDF) and Institute policies and procedures.
Salary Scale €84,797.00 – €109,061.00 *Candidates may be appointed up to the 3rd Point (€90,745.00) of the Salary Scale in accordance with University Policy.
