On 26th November, the Applied IoT Cluster together with Ireland’s two European Digital Innovation Hubs (ENTIRE EDIH Ireland and Data2Sustain) will host a free lunchtime event, Accelerate your Digital Transformation with EDIHs and the Applied IoT Technology Gateway Cluster, at the Crowne Plaza Blanchardstown.
This free, exclusive event will showcase how SMEs and public sector organisations can leverage de minimis funding for R&D innovation and will provide a unique insight into how EDIHs and Technology Gateways work together to deliver collaborative, end-to-end digital support.
About the Applied IoT Cluster
The Applied IoT Technology Gateway Cluster is one of three clusters within the Enterprise Ireland Technology Gateway Network, which includes 17 specialist Gateways across Ireland.
The Cluster brings together six centres of excellence focused on sensors, connected devices, smart systems, automation, AI/ML and data-driven innovation. Three of these Gateways will feature at the event:
- WiSAR Lab (ATU Donegal): Wireless sensor networks, low-power IoT systems, tracking solutions and embedded electronics.
- Nimbus Research Centre (MTU Cork): Industrial automation, smart energy systems and next-generation digital transformation technologies.
- ICS Technology Gateway (Walton Institute, SETU): IoT platforms, advanced communications, AI-enabled systems and real-time data analytics.
These Gateways help Irish companies turn ideas into prototypes, enhance existing products and apply digital technologies to solve real business challenges.
Overview of Available Funding Supports
Through the Applied IoT Cluster and the Technology Gateway Network, businesses can access a range of Enterprise Ireland innovation supports, including:
- Innovation Vouchers – a €10,000 starting point for scoping ideas, feasibility studies, early prototyping or problem-solving.
- Innovation Partnerships – co-funded collaborative R&D projects with academic experts, supporting larger and more advanced development.
- Feasibility and Digitalisation Grants – early-stage supports that help assess new technologies or plan future innovation activity.
Combined with EDIH de minimis-funded services, companies can access expert guidance, digital assessments, test-before-invest opportunities, and training — often at up to 100% discount for eligible SMEs and PSOs.
Together, these supports reduce risk, accelerate development timelines and strengthen digital capability.
What EDIHs Bring to the Table
There are four EDIHs in Ireland – ENTIRE EDIH,,Data2Sustain, FactoryXChange and CeADAR – which are part of the wider EU’s European Digital Innovation Hub Network, created to accelerate digital transformation across all sectors.
They provide services under four distinct pillars:
Test before Invest – allows organisations to experiment with digital and AI technologies before investing Skills Development – education and skills development to enhance digital competencies, including for example AI, Cybersecurity, Extended Reality, Data Management, and Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Building & Networking – facilitates connections and helps to navigate opportunities within the EDIH Network, national and European agencies and more Support to Find Investment – assist in identifying, preparing and strategic development for funding and investment opportunities for digital projects at national and EU level Each hub works locally but draws on Europe-wide knowledge, ensuring organisations receive tailored support aligned with their needs.
EDIH & Technology Gateway Collaboration
WiSAR, Nimbus, and ICS, three specialist Technology Gateways within the Applied IoT Cluster are working alongside ENTIRE and Data2Sustain to give companies seamless access to a broad range of digital, technical, and research expertise. Together, they provide a unique pathway for organisations to tap into world-class knowledge, advanced technologies, and practical support to accelerate innovation.
