Professional football academy
Elite Edge Coaching is a professional football academy for kids age 9-16. The team of coaches believe every player deserves the opportunity to grow in a supportive but challenging environment. Their mission is to give players the edge they need to reach their potential, with a team of UEFA-qualified and experienced coaches.
Training time is limited. For athletes, a chunk of it is spent standing at a board going through set-plays which is time that could be spent on the pitch actually running them.
Coaches are left splitting sessions between teaching and practicing and there is no reliable way to know who has retained the information before match day arrives.
For coaches and players competing across multiple teams, that problem multiplies. More teams mean more set plays, more sessions impacted, and more time lost to instruction that could have happened elsewhere.
High fidelity click through prototype
A mobile application that moves set-play learning out of the training session and into the gaps of everyday life was proposed.
Coaches assign plays to teams or individual players who can work through them in their own time whenever they have five minutes to spare. Each play can be revisited as many times as needed, and a follow-on quiz allows players know where they stand.
The app provides coaches with a clear view of who is engaging and how they are performing without having to ask. Players and coaches across multiple teams manage everything from one application, keeping it all organised in one place. A ‘per set-play group chat’ keeps any questions or discussion focused and easy to follow.
The design process worked through three phases; low, mid and high fidelity UX design to make sure the navigation felt natural and the application was easy to use. The goal was an application that simplified things for players and coaches rather than adding another tool. The application design is accessible, intuitive, and built around the needs of players and coaches.
