IDASO Ltd is a traffic data collection and analytics company serving transport planners, engineers, and infrastructure authorities.
The company collaborated with the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) through the Enterprise Ireland-supported COMAND Technology Gateway to develop an advanced AI-driven vehicle detection, tracking, and counting system.
The joint research initiative applied artificial intelligence and computer vision to automate traffic data analysis from video surveys, supporting smarter transport planning and infrastructure decision-making across Ireland and the UK.
Supporting smarter transport planning
As demand grew for faster, more accurate traffic insights, the company faced several technical challenges:
- Automating vehicle counting from large volumes of video survey footage
- Accurately detecting, tracking, and classifying vehicles in low-frame-rate video

Through the Enterprise Ireland Innovation Partnership Programme, TUS and IDASO designed and developed an intelligent vehicle tracking and counting system capable of analysing low-frame-rate video footage and generating reliable traffic data.
