PCB Design Assessment
Leader in EV charger industry
EGO EV Chargers Ltd have a wealth of experience in the EV charger industry and positioned better than most to realise a commercial solution in a short period of time. The company have consulted and designed charging stations for use by major car manufacturers and utility companies in Ireland and Europe.
This innovation voucher addresses a need to assess the design and bill of materials (BOM) composition for a new EGO EV Chargers product and advise on its future development roadmap.
The company also requested the Nimbus team to provide recommendations to improve their PCB design to support one logic unit and one power source unit on the same PCB.
Future development roadmap
The Nimbus Gateway hardware team assessed the existing PCB and Firmware.
Based on the assessment the company was provided two options:
- A completely new EV charger development.
- To combine both logic and power source units. This translates into a bigger than expected firmware programming and testing exercise.

Firmware expertise is limited within EGO EV Chargers Ltd. They will need to rely on the expertise of the Technology Gateways to assist them with this desired skillset. As a result, the company have decided to pause all development activities on this project.
A sensible next step is to explore the Enterprise Ireland Innovation Partnership Programme’s Experimental Collaborative Development to add value to the current design, and through experimentation, increase the TRL of the existing prototype.
