Development of a Robust Low-cost IR Imaging-based device for diabetic foot screening (Phase 1)

Monitor foot health remotely
Raidmed is developing a medical solution that enables individuals with diabetes to monitor their foot health remotely. This technology allows patients to conduct simple daily tests at home or in care settings, with cloud-based data providing clinicians early warnings of signs associated with the risk of diabetic foot disease onset
Problem to Be Solved:
- Individuals with diabetes are at high risk of developing foot ulcers due to poor circulation and nerve damage (neuropathy).
- Undetected ulcers can lead to infections, hospitalizations, and even lower-limb amputations.
- Diabetic foot ulcers account for significant healthcare costs and patient suffering.
Once a foot ulcer develops, treatment is expensive and often ineffective in preventing amputation. Current monitoring methods rely on infrequent check-ups by clinicians. Many patients do not notice early warning signs, leading to late interventions that require costly treatments.
Sensor-based remote monitoring solution
CAPPA played a crucial role in delivering Raidmed’s low-cost, sensor-based remote monitoring solution for diabetic foot disease by supporting both hardware and software development. In the first stage of the project, CAPPA was engaged to identify, test, and validate low-cost sensors from different suppliers, ensuring they met performance requirements.
The team evaluated different temperature sensors and their ability to resolve local temperature changes in free space and on phantom foot model. In the second stage, CAPPA developed the backend application necessary to implement the technology, creating a for real-time data collection, processing, and analysis. The patient app on mobile device shows if there are any areas of concern and if contact should be made with a healthcare professional.
