Do you know Enterprise Ireland have a network of Technology Gateways spread throughout the country? For companies in the West / North West (and further afield) we have put together a guide outlining what’s available in your region through the Technology Gateway Network in terms of innovation, support, funding, expertise and advice.

The West / North West regions are home to three Technology Gateways, based in the Atlantic Technological University (ATU) offering specialisations such as Medical & Engineering Technologies, Precision Engineering & Manufacturing and Wireless Solutions. With a wide array of advice and knowledge to offer as well as Enterprise Ireland funding and support, the mix of experience and expertise is second to none.

West

MET Technology Gateway (Medical & Engineering Technologies) ATU Galway City

MET Technology Gateway  is an interdisciplinary applied research centre funded by Enterprise Ireland, dedicated to supporting Research, Development and Innovation activities in the MedTech, LifeSciences and Engineering sectors.

Located within ATU’s Galway Campus, the MET Gateway delivers world class innovative solutions for the close-to-market needs of Irish based Start-ups, SME’s and Multinationals to build, scale and expand reach by improving competitiveness and enhancing innovation activities. By actively engaging with clinical and industry partners, the MET Gateway produces both scientific knowledge and technology outputs across a range of streams, generating solutions for the close-to-market needs of companies.

North West

PEM Technology Gateway (Precision Engineering & Manufacturing) ATU Sligo

PEM Technology Gateway has developed expertise in precision engineering, design for manufacture (DFM), mechanical engineering, materials science, micro-machining, polymer processing, rapid prototyping, general manufacturing process control and statistical process analysis. Funded by Enterprise Ireland, they work with companies, across a range of sectors on projects that help solve technical challenges they are experiencing or innovations they want to develop. PEM provides engineering and technical solutions along with process improvements across the full product lifecycle, with specialisation in product design and development in the engineering and manufacturing sectors. Allowing companies to develop new products, processes & services by leveraging the research expertise available through ATU Sligo.

PEM works with companies at all stages of their research and innovation journey and across the full spectrum of Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs).

WiSAR Technology Gateway (Wireless Solutions) ATU Donegal

Enterprise Ireland funded WiSAR Technology Gateway provides solutions to Irish industry for the Internet of Things (IoT) using expertise in wireless, embedded systems and power electronics. The Gateway has a strong focus on smart devices and connected industries. WiSAR’s core strengths are applied to three research strands: The Internet of Things (IoT), Health Monitoring and Industrial Control.

Based in ATU Donegal, WiSAR is home to an extensive team of researchers and engineers working on a wide range of collaborative R&D industry projects and is equipped with a state-of-the-art test bench, connectivity devices, industrial sensors, antennae and digital controllers, for the design of prototypes and the optimisation of industrial processes. This expertise enables WiSAR to work with many product design companies to produce advanced near-to-market prototypes.

The Gateway has a dedicated ready-made R&D infrastructure which can be applied to industry problems of all sizes and in several instances, can become an external R&D source for companies that come through their doors. Projects engagement can happen at any stage in the product development lifecycle with an outcome up to an advanced prototype, Technology Readiness Level 7 (TRL7).
